The kids call me Ms. Ria!
Hello, I’m Gloria Elendu—a learning specialist, professional educator and consultant. The children I work with call me Ms. Ria. The adults I support call me Gloria. My work spans both adults and children.
“We’re not just raising children who can read. We’re raising readers who can think.”
— The Literacy Club with Ria belief

Why I started Literacy Club
A child may read a sentence aloud and still find it hard to explain what it means. They may finish a story but miss the clues, or have an idea but struggle to put it into words.
I created Literacy Club few years ago to make reading a place where children can grow at their own pace, with engaging stories, thoughtful questions and encouragement to speak up. Strong readers also learn to listen carefully, express their ideas and consider different points of view. These skills can help children build better conversations and relationships as they grow into thoughtful, confident adults.
How I teach: the RIA Reading Framework
R — Read
Children build fluency, vocabulary, confidence and enjoyment through shared and guided reading.
I — Interpret
They look for clues, explore characters and events, make inferences, and explain how they reached an idea.
A — Apply
They use what they’ve read to discuss, reason, write, create and communicate.
With small groups of up to six children, each reader has room to participate, ask questions and receive support.
Read. Interpret. Apply.
Because finishing a story is only the beginning. The real growth happens when a child can understand it, think about it and use what they’ve learned.
